Meet Lanier
Lanier Cansler practiced as a CPA for almost 20 years, assisting many healthcare providers and other organizations with business and financial strategies. He was subsequently elected to four terms in the NC House of Representatives, where he chaired major healthcare committees. He then became Chief Deputy Secretary of the NC Department of Health and Human Services in the Easley administration, followed by his appointment as Secretary of Health and Human Services by Governor Perdue, with a departmental budget of over $18 billion and over 17,000 employees. Lanier brings his experience from the private sector, the legislative branch of government, and the executive branch of government to his work in the development of strategy for administrative and operational issues in the state and local government, health and human services arena.
