Meet Gordon
Gordon H. DeFriese, Ph.D. is Professor of Social Medicine, Epidemiology, and Health Policy and Administration, Emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill bringing over 45 years of experience and work in the healthcare arena at both the state and national level. With a doctoral degree from the Department of Behavioral Science in the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Gordon served as Assistant Professor and Co-Director of the graduate program in medical sociology and health planning at Cornell University before joining the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1971. During his tenure at UNC-CH, Gordon led the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research, was president and CEO of the North Carolina Institute of Medicine, and held appointments as Professor of Epidemiology and Health Policy and Administration in the UNC School of Public Health as well as Professor of Social Medicine and Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology at the UNC School of Medicine.
